By Sally Delacruz

When glancing through a room or space, especially within a home, it is probably inevitable that the eye will come to rest on the artwork there. This is not purely by accident, but it has been led there, via clever placement and by the creation of a natural focal point. Abstract mixed media art for home decor, is one of just many art forms which can evoke interest within a space, and takes centre stage if chosen and placed perfectly for its surroundings.

The interest of this type of art is that many types of medium are use to create the finished product. Anything can be used in an abstract type of manner. These materials are often chosen for sentimental reasons, or for their textural interest. The home owner themselves, could be partial to creating a piece for any specific room, to evoke a memory or emotion important, not only to them, but to their family and friends as well.

Depending on the function of the space, the artwork plays a vital role, in setting the tone and mood of the space into which it presents itself. Most artwork evokes feeling whilst still being capable of sparking conversation and contemplation. The depth and meaning of a piece is best exposed when placed in the most beneficial position for that particular one.

Each individual home owner has their very own particular taste, and partiality with regards to finishes and art. That is what makes each wall hanging unique and personal. The choices are endless, and the artists may even custom design the perfect abstract piece for the room and client gladly.

Most home makers prefer to choose different types of art, for the different areas of their home. For instance, within a dining room, a stimulating and consciously alert piece might be needed to spark happy and vibrant conversation. Being smart with your design will always pay off.

The colors used, can also be commissioned if the room has already been pieced together, and all that is left is the space on the wall for a focal point. Lighting plays a vital role, in displaying art, since it also lends itself to creating a mood and atmosphere, which is in harmony with the painting's disposition. Perhaps the colors are deliberately complementary, or even within the same hues as the paint and soft furnishing.

Some pieces might be formed to work as an individual piece when the numerous individual ones are placed together. Thereby creating and stimulating curiosity and provoking dialogue and thought. These are often intricate works with loads of texture and depth. They have a textural and sensory quality which the mixed use of media lends itself to.

Such a personal choice yet appreciated and enjoyed by all that view it. This is the beauty of interior design and the harmony that each objects balances within a room. No matter the size, the furniture, lighting, wall and floor finishes, soft furnishings and art all have to work amongst one another well in order to create the desired experience. Now each room has the potential to become the exact place where anyone could enjoy spending time in without even realizing what it is, that makes them so comfortable and in most cases inspired.
