Learning How To Draw Cartoon Characters

By Essie Osborn

Most people love to amuse their friends with skills that only they possess. Having that unique ability to demonstrate an art form of any kind can place you in the spot light with children and adults alike. Learning how to draw cartoon characters is a simple way to achieve that special skill set.

Accessing lessons and instructors is not difficult. There most likely is someone local who can teach you the basics. Hopefully this person will be someone you will make a connection with. It is important to communicate freely with the person teaching you to draw. Learning is much easier when you are comfortable with the instructor.

A good instructor should be capable of bringing you to expert levels of drawing fairly easily. They will have the skills to teach you as well as the patience to work at a speed that works well for you. You may be able to locate a specialized artist that is close to your home.

You may also choose to search the internet for this training. There are multiple sites offering different types of this specialty drawing. Some offer video lessons and others use the printed word and pictorial examples. There are different styles that you can choose from online. You will see sites that will teach you to create your favorite dragons from the comics or even bugs bunny from the Disney line up. You can learn to draw all of your favorites on these sites.

Other online sites will lead you through the basics of making funny people and animals from your own imagination. They will show you where to place the eyes, nose and mouth in the proper places and what to do to make those faces come alive with expression. It is suggested that you practice expressions in a mirror before drawing them. You can familiarize yourself with what they should look like on paper. Bodies, hands, legs and feet must all be drawn in proportion to the head and face.

Art courses are offered at colleges and night classes also. These classes are less specific and may take much longer to reach the goal you have in mind. They are designed to present a generalized familiarity with the subject and prepare you for the next class available to you.

Book stores are also a good place to look for this training. There you will find a multitude of books that are designed to teach you to sketch, draw and paint your creations. This will allow you to develop your own style of drawing while learning from professionals at your own speed. You may find the same books available at the city library. This will prove much less expensive than purchasing the books before you are able to explore them for content.

Setting a goal of learning to be a skilled cartoonist can be a lot of fun for you. Because of the techniques you learn a world of fantasy will open up to both you and your family and should you want to try to create a career of your new talent you will have a very good start.
