How To Choose The Right Minimalist Wrist Watch For You

By Beryl Dalton

Many people rely on technology such as cellular phones or tablets to tell the time. Because of this, a wristwatch has become more of a fashion piece than a necessity. If you think you may want to wear one but do not want one that sticks out, a minimalist wrist watch may be just your thing. Here is how to choose the right one for you.

The ability to mark the passing of time has been important for thousands of years. Originally, marked candles, water clocks and sundials were used. Over the years, other methods of keeping time were developed. Portable, accurate devices became necessary and the technology to create them advanced. Eventually, it became possible to make small, portable devices that could be kept in a pocket or worn on a wrist.

The first thing to consider is whether you want one that is analog or digital. Both types come in minimalist styles. Often, digital versions can keep track of other information such as your activity level or even work as a way to communicate with devices such as a cell phone. Analog versions can keep track of information such as the date or moon phase. Some can even be used as stop watches.

Take a look at the faces of the analog watches you are considering. You need to remember that the more information it tells you, the more crowded the face will look. Digital options will often have buttons you can press that will allow you to move from function to function. Analog versions, however, will have each function constantly visible on the face. This may make them seem less minimalist.

You may think that a style with no numbers will look great but you may want to think about how easy it will be to tell time at a glance. It might be helpful to at least choose a piece that has lines at four points on the face so that you can tell time quickly and accurately.

You may also want to think about the size and shape of the face. A woman will often choose to wear a smaller piece as they are lighter and can look more feminine. A man will often choose a timepiece that is larger and heavier as this can have a more masculine feel.

The last factor is the color of the piece. You may want a monochromatic look where the face and band are the same. Another option is to choose a piece that has interchangeable bands. This will possibly save money because you can change the look yourself.

Shopping online can be a great place to start. You can search a number of different sites to see what they have to offer. You can also look at user reviews and get an idea of what pricing would be before you buy. You may also want to look at jewelry shops. They will have a good selection to choose from and you can see the piece up close and in person.
