Factors To Consider Before Contracting Any Raleigh Wedding Photographer

By Imelda Reid

Unlike the work of your other wedding vendors, photographs are not things you can hear, smell or even taste in advance. You do not really know what you will be getting until after the function. This means thorough research and selectiveness regarding the professionalism of the photographer are extra important. Below are factors you need to consider when looking for a good Raleigh wedding photographer.

The best way to start the search for your nuptial vendors still remains word of mouth. Amongst your friends, colleagues and family members, you will not fail to find one who has contact with great local photographers. Apart from friends and family, you can also seek referrals from your other vendors like florist, planner or even caterer. These are people who work with various photographers almost on weekend basis. As such, they stand a better chance to give recommendations to the good ones.

In this day and age when almost everything is posted over the internet, a simple online search can also be helpful. In fact, the fact that a cameraman has a website is somehow a show that he takes his business seriously. However, you also need to beware of con-men who pose as photographers over the internet. You must not make payments to any cameraman you meet over the internet until you have met with him on face to face basis.

You should also have a budget in mind before starting the search. The photographers labor charge plus prints and album usually costs around twelve percent of the total cost. Having a budget will help you discard those photographers whose charges you cannot afford. After all, even the most expensive cameraman cannot assure you of quality services.

Wedding photographers usually offer different levels of services. For instance, you can decide to engage the cameraman from the engagement stage all the way to the actual ceremony. However, you should remember that the more you engage the cameraman, the more you will have to pay as labor fee. As such, you should try to minimize his services as much as you can.

Once you identify a good cameraman, the next step is to sign a contract with him. You should never allow any vendors including photographers to start working without contract. The contract must also state clearly responsibility of each of the parties as well as total compensation after the service.

If possible, you need to avoid doing things at the last minute. You should start the search at least three months in advance. This will help you avoid last minute desperation and also give you time to conduct thorough investigation.

With the above tips in mind, finding a good wedding photographer should not be a big problem. You should also verify that the cameraman is covered by professional indemnity insurance just in case something goes wrong with his equipment. Otherwise, you will be forced to pay for any injuries and damages.
