The Purpose And Functions Of The Work Gloves

By Minnie Whitley

Hazards are actually present everywhere, but they are most evident in the work place. Maybe for certain jobs, they may not be so obvious. But with occupations such as construction workers, scientists, firemen, and other dangerous fields, there must really be precautionary measures to be taken in order to prevent any kind of injury.

Taking this into consideration, protective gears have been invented in order to secure the workers from potential hazards. One of them is the work gloves. This is a protective gear for the hands and are used by individuals whose occupation is in contact with dangerous and harmful substances such as corrosive chemicals and acids, rough and sharp materials, hot surfaces, and many more.

They are basically used in order to keep the chemicals, heat, and harmful materials from causing harm. But other than that, they are also used to protect the hands from chemical and acid corrosion especially for those people who have allergies. However, these protective garments cannot ensure you of your safety. But if you observe proper work behavior and choose the appropriate garment, you can definitely avoid the hazards.

Actually, there are several kinds of working muffs. First, there are the disposable gloves. This one is made from lightweight plastic which can prevent mild irritants to affect the skin. They are the ones recommended to those who have allergy problems since they guard against cleaning agents like soap, and other liquid chemicals. They are used also in food handling.

Another type is called the fabric gloves. This one is used to help in gripping objects which are slippery. With them, you can hold things as is. Not just that, they can also help in keeping your hands insulated from either heat or cold. While leather gloves is another type and is used to guard against rough surfaces and when dealing with electricity.

Still another kind is the rubber muffs. This one is used to protect the hands from harsh chemicals such as acids and petroleum based products. Contractors use them to avoid being dirtied by grease or harmed by other maintenance work. While doctors, chemists, and scientists are usually the ones who use them.

But other than those, doctors also use them frequently especially those that often deal with patients who have contagious diseases. That is because the blood of these patients contain pathogens that are able to invade into the system of another person by mere contact. That is why something as thick and impenetrable like rubber is used.

There is also the metal mesh gloves. These are used in order to guard the hands against scratches especially by individuals whose job deal with sharp materials. While the last one is the aluminized gloves. These ones are used by individuals dealing with molten materials so as to protect the hands from intense heat.

These are the most common kinds of working muffs. They were created in order to protect the workers from the potential harms on the way. However, there are times when there is no need to put them on. If you see that they can only bring harm if worn then do not wear them. After all, it is your carefulness that matters most.
