Tips On Portrait Photography In Melbourne

By Enid Hinton

Almost everyone likes to look at a stunning photo. It could be that of a model, friend, member of the family or complete stranger. When a photo is well taken, it will create some form of a mystery. There will be good memories about them. Perfectly taken portraits will bring out the true personality of an individual. In consideration of portrait photography in Melbourne, various tips and tricks come in handy. These will enable the person to come up with perfect outcomes.

One of the most important considerations is the background. The face of the person is the most important aspect when it comes to a portrait photo. Therefore, the background should not interfere with it. A simple background which is not very cluttered will be ideal. For some instances however, the surroundings should be considered to bring out the personality of the person. For example, the portrait photograph of a lawyer could be taken in his office with stacks of legal books.

It is not a must that the background has to be prominent. One option of making it dim or blurred is to focus more on the subject. This is done to almost all portraits. It can be achieved through shooting from a short distance or using a zoom lens. A wide aperture manual setting will also be an option to use. Blurring of the background is done through the use of software like Photoshop.

Lighting is very crucial. If portraits are taken in natural light, one will have the best chance of getting the best appearance with natural colors and the right skin tones. On the downside however, control of the light intensity may be a bit difficult. Posing should not be done right in front of the sun because it could bring about unnecessary brightness or shadows.

Taking portraits in mid-day ought to be avoided. For the best results, subjects need to be positioned such that sunlight falls on them sideways. The use of reflectors and external flash can be considered for lighting up some face sections. For shooting done indoors, evenly distributed light source which is soft should be used for lighting.

The use of different apertures will be helpful. When the aperture is opened wide, the background will get blurred and thus the subject made to stand out. Smaller apertures give the screen a better focus. When taking a portrait, the main focus should be the eyes of the subject. The assumption that smiling faces make the best portraits is not true in all instances. It is best to capture various expressions while still focusing on the eyes.

The pose and angle should be carefully considered. Not at all times should one motionlessly look into the camera. A sexy expression, inviting smile or flamboyant look will give a unique and nice outcome. Experimentation will bring about great results.

Makeup is an important consideration. It covers any blemishes and also makes the face to glow and look even. The use of makeup gives a trendy or different look depending on the personality of the individual. Makeup also enhances confidence.
