Saint Francis was the son of Pietro di Bernardone and Pica de Bourlemont. His father came from a rich family and his mother from a notable one. He was born under the sign of Sagittarius on November 26, 1182. He was named Giovanni on his baptism yet it was recreated to Francesco.

He is known as the patron of ecology. He is the founder of Order of Friars Minor. The Order was later noted as Franciscans. He is known to be the primary Italian poet which all his writings used the jargon of Umbria. He never uses Latin words.

Francis was lucky that he came from an affluent family because all his needs are given. When he was young, his life was pretty opposite. He is recognized to be the usual bad boys in the household yet everything was changed when his heart was touched and his eyes were awakened by God. He lived his life helping and helping the needy.

When the war broke between Perugia and Assisi in 1202, Francis decided to take his place in cavalry which changed his life ultimately. When the men were under attack, several soldiers have been wounded and some have died. When Francis was held captured in the arms of the enemies, he feared that they might kill him but they do not. They held him in exchange of a ransom. All the wealthy soldiers were asked for a ransom.

When his family had payed his ransom, he was immediately freed by the enemy troops. Yet even when he was already a free man, the deep wounds that he encountered during the war has been carved deep inside him. He was sick in both mind and body. He could not picture out the things that he had viewed during the war. He could not put away the shock and the wounds during such tragic incident.

Francis wants to help in building the church yet there is not enough funds for it. What he did is he stole a horse and a bolt of cloth from his father to raise money which makes his father ultimately angry. When he was held captured, the Bishop then told Francis to return everything he stole from his father.

When Francis got extremely ill, he received a sight from God. He was even left with a stigmata. The stigmata corresponds the wounds that Christ had obtained during the crucifixion. Though some people believed that those are just the marks which was caused by leprosy yet there are still a lot of them who believed that it is the work of God. He perished on October 3, 1226 at the age of 44.
