Steps To Making An Abstract Watercolor Painting

By Serena Price

When creating an abstract watercolor painting, the artist has to follow a certain process wherein he will be brainstorming, conceptualizing, and then painting. There is a misconception in most people that abstract artists would just randomly paint using random colors and random strokes. Of course the truth is that artists in this field are actually painting an object in their own perspective.

Now the very first thing to do would be to get some equipment for the artwork. Of course one will be needing to get an assortment of colors of paint and put them on small palette before he would start working on his piece. After that, get a paintbrush, a small cup of water, and of course get a canvas to draw on.

Now to start off, one has to look for a subject that interests him so he can make an artwork on it. Now it can be anything from a fruit to a flower to even just a simple chair as long as it does not move around. So after seeing what object is good, then he has to really concentrate fully on the object of the piece.

After choosing the object and concentrating on it, it is good for a beginner to first lightly draw the object on the canvas. This will help the artist be able to create something out of the simple drawing because the simple drawing will act as a point of reference. So if one is not a seasoned painter, then he may do this step first so that he will not have a hard time.

Upon drawing the object, one may now conceptualize how he will be able to paint that object. An abstract artist thinks differently as compared to regular people which means that he views that object differently as compared to others as well. So basically, he just has to conceptualize how he will put his perception of the object on paper.

Once that is done, then he can start mixing the paints and start working on the project. Of course he may start with one stroke of any color and just let his creative juices flow out. Of course the strokes that he will use would be based on the light drawing that he made a while ago.

After the first layer of paint, then he can actually add another layer of paint in order to be able to add a little bit more spice to it. Basically, one will be editing the painting and add a little more strokes and colors in order to make it nicer. After that, then he will already have made the finished product.

So if one would follow these steps to making an abstract watercolor painting, then he may come up with a beautiful finished product. Of course he has to go through a process of conceptualizing before he comes up with a finished product. As long as one follows the process, then he will not have a hard time starting from scratch.
