How To Do A Brass And Woodwind Sterilization

By Jody Leach

In order to play a wind instrument, one would have to blow into the instrument using his mouth all the time. However, the thing about wind instruments is that they may build up bacteria which would make them quite harmful for one to blow. It is for this reason that this type of instrument would need regular brass and woodwind sterilization.

Now one does not actually need to sterilize the entire thing as it will not really be necessary. The part that he would really need to clean up regularly would actually be the mouthpiece because this is where one will be placing his mouth. So the very first step would be to gather some things for the job.

So there are pretty much just four things that one would need to get when he is going to do the job. Now the first thing he would need would be a bottle of any type of alcohol along with a cup that is filled with hot water. Now he will also be needing a special mouthpiece disinfectant solution that can be bought at pretty much any music store.

Now the first step that one would need to do would be to disinfect the part wherein one would put his mouth in. This is where the special disinfectant would come in as it would specially clean the mouthpiece after it was used by the owner. So one should never forget to buy himself a bottle if he plays this kind of instrument.

Now when one has already done that, then he has to now put some alcohol on it. Now the alcohol would be used in order to make sure that all the hidden bacteria and germs there would die. Of course in order to do this, one would need to use a clean cloth, pour the alcohol on the cloth, and then wipe it on the mouthpiece so that the bacteria will die.

After one has already done that, then the next thing that he should do would be to get the glass of hot water. Now after he has gotten the glass of hot water, he should put just a little bit of soap inside. Once he has mixed the soap with the hot water, then he should soak the mouthpiece in there for a few minutes.

Once this step has already been done, then all one has to do would be to rinse off the soap. One has to thoroughly rinse the instrument after all of those steps have been finished so that he will not put alcohol, disinfectant, or soap in his mouth. After rinsing it, then all he has to do is wipe it a little, and then he can play it again.

So for those who would play these kinds of instruments, here are some ways to clean it. Now the cleaning part is extremely important because one will be making sure that no bacteria will grow there. Of course by doing this, one will lessen his chances of getting illnesses after he would play.
